Oasis Cottage
★★★
Nestled just outside Oxford, beneath the watchful gaze of Mount Oxford and the Southern Alps, Oasis Cottage is a romantic country garden woven into the fabric of a historic 1898 homestead. This five-acre property blends formal structure with a generous sense of wild beauty, offering a sensory experience that evolves with the seasons.
Oasis Cottage is not just a garden; it's our home—a personal project shaped by our own hands over many years. On a few select open days and by appointment, we welcome others to wander, pause, and enjoy the beauty we've created, especially those who find joy in thoughtfully designed gardens and the quiet magic of nature. Our personal touch is woven into every corner, inviting you to connect with our journey and the beauty we've cultivated.
Wander through a garden alive with texture, scent, and colour. A traditional vegetable allée, heirloom orchard, arboretum, and cut-flower borders create a garden of purpose and abundance. The much-loved Blue Garden features 16 raised beds bursting with curated floral combinations that change throughout the year—an ever-shifting display of floristic exuberance. Meandering paths lead visitors to secluded corners, contemplative seats, and rural vistas.
A tranquil duck pond, surrounded by native plantings and birdlife, offers a peaceful spot to pause and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of nature. Throughout the property, pockets of native flora provide shelter, encourage biodiversity, and create harmonious transitions between cultivated and natural spaces. Views of Mount Oxford offer a dramatic backdrop at every turn, anchoring the experience in the majesty of the South Island landscape.
An exciting new addition is The Hidden Valley—a developing part of the garden that blends structure with wildness in a secluded, lower-lying section of the property. Visitors can observe its transformation as this evolving area takes shape season by season.
A standout feature is Atelier Florale, the charming floral studio and greenhouse built by Laurie as a labour of love for his wife, Steph, a qualified florist. Together, they grow a wide variety of seasonal flowers, which Steph gathers and crafts into romantic, European-inspired bouquets. The studio is both a creative space and a celebration of garden-led floristry, offering visitors a unique and intriguing glimpse into a slower, more thoughtful way of working with flowers.
Oasis Cottage is more than a garden—it is a lived-in, loved, and evolving expression of beauty, creativity, and rural charm. Whether you're a gardener, a nature lover, or a curious traveller, you'll find both inspiration and serenity waiting at the gate.
