Casa Rossa

★★★★★

Casa Rossa has been developed over 20 years around a former shingle pit.   The movie “Much Ado about Nothing” inspired the Italian house and garden design.

The consequential garden is an interesting mix of formal (around the house) and informal (in the dell) garden rooms.   The feature of the garden is the 60 metre tapestry beech walk which confines and focuses the view,  before  tantalising with a glimpse through to the central features of the garden. These include a pond with a classic Japanese style arched bridge, maple trees and a variety of pond edge vegetation. Artwork draws the visitor on and they are diverted past a series of garden rooms hosting more interesting garden art through a shaded walk and into a shaded dell area before bursting out into the pond area

The garden contains  an eclectic mix of trees including magnolias, oaks, elms, sequoia, paulownia, birch and palms and interesting collections of bamboos, rhododendrons and hostas.  Garden art is a feature and it includes lions, urns, plinths and archways.  Two striking larger pieces are an Italian bronze fountain and a gazebo imported from India.
