ANZAC Park (Public)

This formal garden contains the region’s main war memorial, three pillars and a central cenotaph, which form the central piece in ANZAC Park.

The three pillars note key locations where New Zealand armed forces were in combat. An additional plaque was added to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli to the monument in 1990 and another added in 1992, to commemorate those who gave their lives during the Korean War 1950 – 1953.

Around the park under trees planted in memoriam, various plaques commemorating different sectors of the armed services can be found.

ANZAC Park is home to many established trees – some of which are illuminated at night to great effect. There is also an impressive collection of phoenix palms. Seasonally changing bedding displays are designed to be eye-catching and impressive. A lovely spot to sit or stroll and enjoy.
