Samuels Rose Garden, established in 1968, contains 560 named varieties and over 3000 plants includes Slaters Crimson China Rose - the first variety of rose grown in New Zealand.

Queen's Gardens is a beautiful example of a classical Victorian ornamental park. Centrally located information panels placed around the garden reveal its history. The gardens are part of a designated Historic Places Trust precinct.

Thackwood Garden

Thackwood Garden is a 3 acre cottage garden surrounded by a 300 acre farm. The house is built on a hill with commanding views of Tasman Bay and the garden has been extended down a step bank that has been terraced, planted and leads down to a large pond at the bottom of a flat paddock.

This garden is situated on half an acre, filled with roses, paeonies, lavenders, fruit trees,  large vegetable garden and abundant bird life.

Tussix

Tussix

Situated in the picturesque valley at East Takaka, this large country garden makes the most of its flat terrain. Wide borders are edged with old totara posts from the farm and elsewhere with stone. A fascinating collection of old hand- hewn troughs, planted with succulents, can also be found in the garden. This is an enjoyable addition to a day out in East Takaka.

Nelson's landmark cathedral stands proudly on Church Hill. The first church was a tent erected when Bishop Selwyn visited in 1842. It was replaced with a simple converted wooden building bought from the New Zealand Company.
