Anacapri (Private)
Anacapri is a small town garden, less than a ¼ acre, on a virtually flat site. The garden is divided by spaces dictated by the architectural features of the house - there are mood changes rather than walls or hedges to separate them. The site is windy, hot and dry on a pumice base, but has been adapted to suit the owner’s requirements. Garden entry is often through the house to view the water gardens and then proceed to the outer features which comprise a rose walk, patio, shade, mixed border, woodland, ‘bush’ and finally to a utility working garden area completing the circuit. Colour and ornamentation are used with restraint though the Blue Garden makes a contrary statement. Native New Zealand plants feature throughout but though these are important, this is not a purist collection, rather each plant is chosen on merit regardless of origin.
