Hamilton Gardens (Public)

The themed gardens incorporated in the overall area are unique in this country. Designed and created to tell the garden story from around the world these feature the Japanese Garden, English and Chinese Gardens, a modernist American Garden and an Italian Garden all created with integrity of design and planted sympathetically. The Indian Garden was completed in 2005.

The Hamilton Gardens are pleasantly contoured and there are many special areas to explore. The unusually spacious rose garden on undulating ground is superb and contains the NZ Rose Trials and a French Rose Garden. There is a Camellia Garden and a wide lawn flanked by rhododendrons. On the upper level a colourful Victorian themed flower garden includes several well-stocked greenhouses planted in a similar theme. At the heart of the garden there is a visitor centre, educational and meeting rooms with all facilities. Here too is a restaurant and cafe and staging which all face out over a large body of water. Tour guides are available by prior arrangement.
