Loch Leven Garden and Nursery (Private)
Over the last 33 years Doreen and Mike have created a 3 acre garden from a blank canvas. This expansive and tranquil garden is set on their small farm in the Amuri Basin.
The garden is made up of many different areas flowing from one to the next. Hedging has been used extensively to give shelter, structure, formality and definition. Native areas provide shelter and an evergreen backdrop.
Large borders are filled with a rich array of plants including roses, rhododendrons, shrubs, perennials, hostas and irises. Deciduous trees planted throughout the large lawn and garden give shade and spectacular autumn colour, especially the Claret Ash. A dry-stone walled garden is planted predominantly in silvers and greys all of which tolerate the harsh climate conditions for which this area is renowned. Locally sourced large rocks and wire art are a focal point in the garden.
A summerhouse nestled between peony beds and espaliered fruit trees adds tranquillity. Paths have been made using old bricks from nearby homesteads salvaged from the 2016 earthquake.
