Broadfield NZ Landscape Garden

Broadfield is the brainchild of two people – the owner David Hobbs and professional landscape designer Robert Watson. Created out of bare paddock, the garden has slowly developed to show case New Zealand flora and the imaginative design can be enjoyed from the top of an artificial hill. The totara hedges create long avenues that divide it into various garden rooms.

Flaxmere is a large country garden in North Canterbury. Close to the Southern Alps it has evolved over the last forty years and has a strong design in tune with the surrounding countryside. 

Ōhinetahi

Ōhinetahi

Ōhinetahi overlooks Lyttleton Harbour with a backdrop of volcanic hills. While the Ōhinetahi Homestead is considered to be a significant building in the settlement of Governors Bay, the formal garden is considered to be one of the finest in New Zealand. Present owner Sir Miles Warren began the present garden in 1977 and it reflects the architectural talent of its owner.

Christchurch Botanic Garden

Christchurch Botanic Garden

Christchurch Botanic Garden is situated within Hagley Park, in a loop of the River Avon. The garden was founded in 1863 with the planting of an English Oak tree and now features one of the finest collections of exotic and native plants found in New Zealand. There are 21 hectares of horticultural displays, memorials, garden art and walking tracks to entertain visitors.

Frensham

Frensham

Frensham is a large country garden, tucked below the western slopes of the Port Hills in Canterbury. Named after the red rose, ‘Frensham’, the garden flows around the mellow brick residence in a sequence of carefully thought-out spaces. Formal outdoor living areas close to the house take advantage of subtle changes of level, with crisp hedges and falling water.

Loch Leven Garden and Nursery is a large country garden near the Rotherham village with spectacular views of the Seaward Kaikouras and surrounding hills of Lowry Peaks range.  Extensive use of hedging gives structure near the house merging into more naturalistic planting in the outer borders.

Timaru Botanic Gardens

Timaru Botanic Gardens

Timaru Botanic Gardens was established in 1864 and covers 19 hectares. Displaying over 30 individual plant collections and an arboretum, the gardens showcase an extensive range of species including threatened plants. Highlights are the Graeme Paterson Conservatory open daily and the Education Centre open on Wednesday 2pm – 4pm or by appointment.

Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden

Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden

At the foot of the Timaru Piazza, close to Caroline Bay, the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden is a remarkable feature. Designed by Sir Miles Warren and with rose plantings honouring Trevor Griffiths’ collection, the gardens boast a representative plant from every main rose family in the world. Enjoy a walk through history in this special rose garden, best viewed November to February.

Broadoak

At the centre of Broadoak is a 2-acre formal wedding garden. Developed from a commercial peony paddock 6 years ago, the entire area is enclosed by a 3-metre-high wall of hedging between twenty brick pillars adorned by gargoyles giving the feel of a walled garden.

Dalkeith

Set on the Canterbury Plains, approximately 12kms south of Christchurch at 437 Boundary Road, Rolleston, is our 4-acre garden, Dalkeith

Knockdolian

Knockdolian

Knockdolian was land divided off from a large property owned by one of the early Deans families of Canterbury in 1939. A small house was built here for Mrs McIlraith of Knockdolian in Scotland. She was a descendant of Janes Deans (nee McIlraith ) who move out to NZ during the 2nd World war. This is how it was named. After her return to Scotland in 1945 Bill Deans, a wonderful tree lover, planted the trees in the garden.

Developed since 2014. A predominant planting of rhododendrons, choice selection of small trees and shrubs interplanted with paeonies, lilies, roses and perennials, many grown from imported seed.  Garden of the 2015 Gardena NZ Gardener of The Year.
