At just 5 minutes’ drive from the CBD is a garden in the country which is anything but a country garden. You won’t find beds of cottage flowers or rows of box hedge but you will be enchanted by winding paths through the native bush walk full of contrasting foliage, with extensive collections of Hosta, drifts of Clivia, many different Maples, Bromeliad & garden art throughout. Starting at the roadside this easily traversed hillside garden provides many vantage points to stop & soak up the peaceful atmosphere using view shafts, on strategically placed seating, under large trees or at the viewing deck which sits level with the canopy of two Tawas.
From mid-winter, through late spring the over 900 rhododendrons & azaleas provide a wonder of subtle to blazing colours. This display is accompanied several times a year by the flowering of the large Vireya collection also numbering at over 200 different hybrids & species.
Two orchards, vegetable gardens & an enclosed berry house bring special points of interest to the foodies & home growers alike.
