Brookfield Park

★★★★★

JJ took over the property in 2003. Then in a ruinous state, it has been a restorative challenge. Bordered by magnificent hedges, the majority of Brookfield’s gardens are contained within this structure, entered through a 100-year-old Weeping Elm straddling the driveway.

Each of the sections of the garden is unique and includes numerous native plantings. These include a topiaried and cloud-pruned garden, the Woodland Garden, Cottage Garden, Stumpery, Delos & WW1 Memorial Avenue of Oaks with an enchanting surprise at the end.

After recent visits to English & French gardens, JJ has been inspired to create a garden installation that reflects this experience, namely the Delos Folly and Cloud Contemplation Garden.

Throughout the garden JJ has installed numerous relevant sculptures including many by internationally renowned sculptor Jeff Thomson and Australian artist Warren Luke.

A boardwalk extends from the house across a pond (with fountains) to an expansive manicured lawn and loggia for entertaining.

JJ’s dream has always been to create a restful haven around a restored Victorian country homestead. For those who seek a place to stop and absorb these tranquil surroundings there are seating & picnic spots aplenty in Bookfield’s Gardens. Perennial borders feature at Brookfield with a tapestry of mixed colours backed by native topiary.

Throughout the gardens are a number of quirky & whimsical surprises along with JJ’s personal commemorative trees, both native and exotic.

JJ sees Brookfield as her opportunity to share her dream with the community.
