Description
Over the last five years Joan and Tony Lawrence have created two quite distinct gardens surrounded by vines and olive trees, both overlooking Lake Dunstan and its back drop of the magnificent Pisa Range. The Aurum Wines Vineyard Garden is distinct in its use of Mediterranean plants and its French Country stone house, built using local schist. The house and garden are on an elevated terrace, a remnant from the 19th century gold sluicing operations and are surrounded by large graveled courtyards and stone walls. There are expansive views of the surrounding countryside, vineyards, Lake Dunstan and mountain ranges. The plantings have been kept simple to compliment the house and landscape with plants selected to withstand the very dry conditions and severe climate. The garden at Aurum Winery surrounds a renovated cottage which is now used as the tasting room. The mixed cottage garden is anchored by a century old walnut tree.
