Description

Joy Plants is a young working garden developing under an outstanding grove of native trees - totara, puriri and titoki. Both sun and shade loving plants thrive in this plant persons' paradise where artistic groupings of a huge variety of fascinating, rare and unusual plants gathered from all corners of the world thrive under the Hatch families' care. Many rare native trees have been planted here to protect those endangered in the wild and as plants people and plant breeders they have specialized in many genera both native and exotic. South African flora is a particular specialty in this garden and clivias grow in an ever increasing colour range as a result of their breeding programme. Hellebores are another specialty. This garden is not colour coordinated but plants are growing where conditions suit and where they will grow to their full potential. Spring is the peak season but there is something of interest to see at all times of the year. The way to Joy Plants Garden lies through the nursery where many fascinating plants are displayed. Just follow the signs.Garden open 9 a.m. - 12.00 on saturdays by appointment. Closed Sundays and all public holidays. Large groups must book in advance for garden tour.
