Description

Wrights Watergardens surround the Mauku Waterfall, stream and abandoned rock quarry. the gardens are on several levels where numerous pathways, bridges and ponds lead you to surprise after surprise. Unique growing situations are found in this one garden due to the huge rock face and abundant water. Over eighty varieties of waterlilies and exotic lotus cover the ponds during the summer months. Their thousands of flowers create a magical kaleidoscope of colour. Aquatic plants like Japanese Iris, Thalia, Pontederia and Hibiscus are planted close to the ponds, while beyond are numerous plantings of natives and exotic bulbs, perennials, trees and annuals. The sunny north facing rock wall is a perfect site for cactus, succulents, aloes and tropical plants while the shady south facing side suits orchids, ferns, palms etc. At the bottom of the waterfall the path leads you down to the shady garden. This is like a different world to the levels above with the tree ferns, bromeliads, primula, astilbe and other shade loving plants. Not to be missed is the rock garden, the golder garden, the Balinese temple and the large wedding lawn. The summer house is the ideal place to sit and relax while viewing the waterfall and the wood pigeons that are garden residents. This is a garden for the nature lover who can't resist all plants. Soak up the health giving ions from the waterfall or relax and meditate at one of the many magical sites. Check out the eels and turtles. Don't forget your camera.
