Description

The Nikaus is situated in a wide and picturesque bay in the Kenepuru Sound, part of the larger Marlborough Sound and is reached by driving from Havelock or Picton or by boat from Havelock.   Just a short distance from the sea the garden has excellent views in several directions. The Nikaus was first planted by a dedicated gardener and further developed by the present owner. There is a large Magnolia campbellii on the lawn in front of the house. From here shaded walks lead to another expansive lawn bordered by extensive plantings of shrubs and perennials. Rhododendrons thrive in the mild climate and good soil. In spring Rhododendron nuttalli is laden with fragrant white trusses is just one of the many good plants to be seen. Behind the house a productive vegetable garden is not to be missed.Morning and afternoon teas are available by prior notice.
