To establish the New Zealand Gardens Trust we wrote to more than 200 gardens seeking support and financial backing. We established a one-off category of garden, " Founding Garden ", to recognise those gardens that were instrumental in the formation of New Zealand 's national garden body.
Our Founding Gardens each donated NZ$2000, which enabled us to undertake our first round of garden assessments, to commission this website, and to hold our inaugural seminar. For this the NZGT and gardening fraternity is indebted.
These gardens have shown great foresight and determination in establishing this important industry initiative, and the NZGT intends to ensure that this investment serves best the interest and betterment of New Zealand 's many gardens.
