Registering Your Garden With Us

Registered Garden

Registering a garden with the NZGT costs NZ$130 + GST ($146.25) per annum.  We require detailed information about your garden, which is verified by a site visit by one of our assessors.  We re-inspect each Registered Garden every five years, to ensure that the information we have recorded and published, is still true and correct.  The fee for Registered Gardens includes annual membership to the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture.  See the RNZIH website for details of the benefits of belonging to this organisation.

Each Registered Garden has a web page featured on this site presenting information about the garden, including a photo if supplied.

Garden of Significance

This garden category costs NZ$390 + GST ($438.75) per annum.  All Gardens of Significance are also Registered Gardens, with respect to the information collected, and membership to the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture.  Additionally, two assessors visit your garden to undertake a formal critique, to determine if your garden meets the high standard required for endorsement as a Garden of Significance.  Furthermore, re-inspection of a Garden of Significance occurs every three years to ensure that the high standards have been maintained.  Registering as a Garden of Significance entitles you to have up to five photographs of your garden on the website.

Registration Administration

Applications for garden assessment close on the 30th of June each year.  Once the number and location of gardens is known, the assessments occur between September and December.  Gardens are advised of their endorsement, and website entries added, in January/February.

All registered gardens have their annual membership to the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture paid in December each year.  The NZGT administers this process on behalf of each garden.
